Introduction to 5 Thumbs

5 Thumb Boxes came out of an exercise we gave a sponsee we had to keep her busy in-between meetings while she was just a few days clean and craving her doc madly. We were also working the steps, but a creative outlet is always an excellent way to focus one's energy. We began adorning the boxes quite elaborately, as we were to take the boxes to Chicago as holiday gifts. When we described them to our step-mom over the phone, we told her that they looked like something "an alien with all thumbs had done.." We were embarrassed at their imperfections. Once in Chicago, we shyly presented our boxes and to our surprise they were a smash! My step-mom, who is always coming up with these great ideas, named them "5 Thumb Boxes" and said we should sell them.

What's most fun, perhaps unique and extraordinary about the boxes, besides the fact that no 2 are alike, is that they are made by "us." Not just one of us creates the design, but many contribute to the whole, cooperating, blending, taking turns, even compromising. It's a great exercise for life; if only we could just make boxes all the time.
